Who We Are at NE-ACR
The New England Chapter of ACR (NE-ACR) is one of the largest ACR chapters in the United States, both geographically and numerically. (Information about ACR can be found below.) NE-ACR covers all of New England (including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine). It is also the oldest chapter, founded in 1991. The New England Chapter works very closely with national ACR in sharing information, jointly sponsoring events, and participating in national decision making, though the two organizations are separate (different membership lists, separate financials, and independent leadership).
The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) is a professional organization dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of conflict resolution. Created in 2001 in a merger between the three largest dispute resolution associations in the United States (the Academy of Family Mediators, the Society of Professionals in Dispute Resolution, and Conflict Resolution in Education Network), ACR is now the primary body representing dispute resolution professionals in North America.
Some of the services NE-ACR provides its members are:
- Updates on the latest developments and opportunities in the field
- Advance notice of all NE-ACR Programs
- Reduced admission to programs and our regional conferences
- Opportunities to network with other ADR professionals
- Subscription to the NE-ACR Newsletter, published online quarterly
- Listing in NE-ACR's Online ADR Practitioner Directory
- Membership with an association working to promote ADR in New England and support our next generation of practitioners with NE-ACR's scholarship program
- Our largest yearly project is our annual conference, which draws approximately 300 ADR professionals from across New England and the United States. Our presenters and trainers at the conference are some of the most prestigious ADR leaders in the nation. NE-ACR also hosts several member events each year, and our goal is to locate these throughout all of the regions in New England.
